The Emotional Orphan

complexity-bad memory
weave a spider’s web
whirlpool of repetition drags downward
swirling us to our doom

the binding force is love
beautifully brought, then undone
resentments,reparations,repetitions,
redrawn, reworked.

staying this path is not
easy, there’s no surgical
cut to suture nicely, no numbers
tell us what colors to use.

imbalanced, no easy
answers to render powerless
unwanted tears
that equate disbelief.

due to their strength,
convictions create more
problems than they solve
and i’m convicted.

love isn’t the struggle,
our battle stances drag us
to something neither wants.
despite truth, protestations win.

I love you, I just don’t know
the direction from here, back to the communion
that made us laugh, before the foundation shook
and the wall went up.
